Today in Human Geo. and Internet Responsibility

Today is Human Geo, we watched the facts video again. One facts that sticks out pretty clearly in my mind is that the first text wasn’t even sent until December of 1992. Mr. Schick told us a story of his first time using a cellphone. He told us that one time when he was working on a movie, a boss of his asked him to go get him a cellphone from someone else that had one. So when he brought it back and his boss was using it, he was amazed at how there was no cord attached to the wall. He actually ended up borrowing it and called his friend from outside. His friend was just as amazed. I thought this story was pretty interesting because on the rare occasion I have to call someone on my phone, I don’t think twice about it. I am so used to and I don’t remember how amazing it actually is. The same goes for texting. Although I do text a lot, I don’t really put thought into how amazing it really is. We then talked about some more very interesting facts and that was pretty much the entire class.

One topic I feel kind of strongly about is responsible Internet usage. I use the Internet so much and I know a lot of kids around my age do too. We often use it so much that we forget how much of a privilege it is and how responsible we must be. One reason we must be responsible on the Internet is for our own safety. If we put a lot of our personal information online, it is so easy for anyone to track us down. Another thing we must be responsible online is cyber bullying. We need to know the affect our hurtful comment on some one’s picture can have on someone. We need to not only make sure we are not cyber bullying, but we need to try to help stop others from doing it. I don’t know if cyber bullying will ever be put to a stop but I do believe that the rate of cyber bullying could be a ton lower if we just put in a little bit more effort. Those are just two of the many things we have to be responsible for on the Internet.
