Measuring Population

Crude Birth Rate: number of births per 1,000 of the population
Crude Death Rate: number of deaths per 1,000 of the population
Rate of Natural Increase: produced by subtracting the death rate from the birth rate 
-this gives us the the annual natural growth rate - in percentage form - for a country or region
Net Migration Rate: the difference between the number of persons entering and leaving a country during a year 
-an excess of persons entering the country is net migration 
-written as a positive number 
Ex. Canada had 5.56 migrants per 1,000 population
Now Canada has 5.66 migrants per 1,000 population 
-United States had 3.62 migrants per 1,000 population 
Now the United States has 2.45 migrants per 1,000 population
-an excess of persons leaving the country is net emigration 
-written as a negative number
Ex. Mexico had -3.51 migrants per 1,000 population
Now Mexico has -1.64 migrants per 1,000 population
-Argentina has 0 migrants per 1,000 population
